Insurance & Payment
I offer psychotherapy, sex therapy, and coaching. While these services may sometimes address overlapping concerns, they are distinct in their purpose, scope, and relationship to health insurance.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is clinical mental health treatment for emotional, psychological, behavioral, and relational concerns.
I am an in-network provider with select insurance plans for psychotherapy services. Being in-network does not guarantee that a particular service, diagnosis, or course of treatment will be covered by your insurance plan.
Coverage is determined by your individual insurance plan and may depend on medical necessity, diagnosis, plan benefits, exclusions, authorization requirements, and other coverage criteria.
Psychotherapy may include discussion of sexual or relationship concerns when clinically relevant to the mental health treatment being provided. This does not guarantee insurance coverage for sex therapy or for any particular sexual concern.
Sex Therapy
Sex therapy focuses specifically on concerns related to sexuality, sexual functioning, intimacy, desire, arousal, orgasm, sexual communication, sexual confidence, and intimate relationships.
Sex therapy is generally offered as a private-pay service.
In some circumstances, sexual concerns may be addressed within psychotherapy when they are clinically relevant to the treatment being provided. Whether such treatment is eligible for insurance coverage is determined by the client’s individual insurance plan and its requirements.
I cannot guarantee that an insurance company will cover treatment simply because a sexual concern is addressed as part of psychotherapy.
Coaching
Coaching is a private-pay service and is not billed to health insurance.
Coaching is goal-oriented and may focus on personal development, relationships, communication, confidence, sexuality, life transitions, and other areas of growth.
Coaching is not psychotherapy and does not involve the diagnosis or treatment of a mental health disorder. When mental health treatment is clinically indicated, psychotherapy rather than coaching may be recommended.
Insurance Coverage
Insurance benefits vary substantially between plans, even within the same insurance company. Verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment or coverage.
Clients who wish to use insurance are encouraged to contact their insurance plan directly to verify eligibility, benefits, exclusions, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, authorization requirements, and coverage for the specific services they are seeking.
Before beginning services, we can discuss whether psychotherapy, sex therapy, or coaching is most appropriate for your needs and whether the service will be submitted to insurance or provided on a private-pay basis.
