Online Couples Therapy in Maryland

Couples therapy focuses on the relationship between partners, including communication, emotional connection, intimacy, and the ways decisions and responsibilities are negotiated. It offers a structured setting for examining the relationship, understanding each partner’s perspective, and working towards agreed goals.

My Experience and Approach

I have worked with couples since 2021. I have completed training and an externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as comprehensive sex therapy training through The Buehler Institute.

EFT is an approach to couples therapy grounded in attachment theory. It examines how emotions, expectations, and the need for connection influence interactions between partners. We pay attention to how each person expresses themselves, how the other responds, and the patterns that emerge between them.

The work involves understanding these patterns, expressing feelings and needs more directly, and developing more responsive ways of relating. Each partner’s perspective matters, alongside individual responsibility for their behaviour.

How Couples Therapy Differs from Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, the focus is one person’s experiences and goals. In couples therapy, the relationship is the focus, and the goals are discussed together.

Individual histories remain relevant where they influence expectations, communication, and intimacy. We consider these experiences in the context of the relationship rather than conducting two separate individual therapies within the same session.

Intimacy and Sex Therapy

Emotional and sexual intimacy can be part of couples therapy. This includes affection, desire, physical closeness, sexual communication, and the expression of preferences and boundaries.

Couples therapy considers intimacy within the broader relationship. Sex therapy provides more focused attention to sexual experiences and concerns and can involve individuals or couples. These areas often overlap, and my training allows us to address them together where appropriate.

My approach is kink-friendly and respects consensual expressions of sexuality, including BDSM. I offer space to discuss your interests, preferences, and boundaries without judgement.

What to Expect

Initial sessions establish an understanding of your relationship, each partner’s perspective, and your reasons for seeking therapy. We agree on priorities and review them as the work develops.
